Had a pretty great weekend (like usual). The sun finally showed itself this weekend for the first time in what feels like months. Saw a huge rainbow cast across a truly peaceful sky as the storm moved on. We also survived a few “tornados” weighing down some heavy rain and even some pretty scary hail. We take the good with the bad but I am definitely happy it was a bright and sunny day Saturday for my first Goodier family picknick.
This is where I’ve been the past few months of my life. It’s been an incredible experience so far and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier with my life and my surroundings.
I’ll sum it up quickly in pictures. Heather gets credit for most of these. Since we met, my life has been documented well with pictures.
Heather and I hung out for the first time at the bowling alley.
We definitely bowled double strikes before this picture.
Two of the greatest friends I could ask for. Bowling a Friday night away.
My dad and I spent at least an hour talking about music, it was a fun night.
Hobbit and I relaxed after a seriously fun Run Sly Fox show.
Behind my kit, everything is okay.
We've played together since I was about 11 or 12 years old.
Lying in bed at 5a.m. watching the sun slowly creep up, you have your arm wrapped around a girl and while you’re talking you’re also thinking, “this isn’t so bad.” Then when you wake up a few hours later you realize you just let someone into your life again after shelling out the world for a couple of years. I mean, you’re plenty capable of surviving this life on your own but doesn’t it feel better to share it with someone else? I thought so. Get on your feet; the sun is up.
Where do I even begin? Long days in the studio.. I’ve been working with local band JessTheChamp recording & producing their debut EP. They’re a new band ready to hit the scene strong and I’m really happy to be working with them. Almost wrapped up on that album. Run Sly Fox has been back and forth between a couple different things. We gave ourselves the weekend off from recording to write some new tunes. We took two ideas for two seperate songs at once, went totally different directions and came up with completely different sounding songs. Both of them are really coming together well and will most likely end up on the EP. Along with writing this weekend we got together with our friend Shaylin to do some press photography. We brought her out to some obscure areas and she snapped shots of us posing, talking and my wall climb fail. The shots look amazing and I can’t wait until they are done and I have a copy of them. A huge thank you to you Shaylin for making me appear more attractive than I really am! We hung out at the Horsebrook Cafe after our shoot and did an acoustic set for some friends. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep again this weekend.
Oh, and I met a wonderful girl. She makes thoughts race through my mind even faster than normal. I am living my life again for the first time in years.
The title of this post is dedicated to everyone I go bowling with.
I’ve been putting in a lot, I mean a lot, of hours tracking songs with Brian and Jon for the Run Sly Fox album. We’ve started showing our tunes to some friends/family and have gotten some awesome feedback in return. I can’t even explain the sense of accomplishment I feel from writing, recording and producing this music. Jon put it all in perspective last night when he said to me, “This is what we do.” From the early morning Logic crashes to the 3am vocal takes, each song is a reflection of the many hours we put into the entire process of writing, re-writing, recording and eventually mixing. I am very thankful to be a part of such a great experience with two very good friends. For me, the depth of what we create goes far beyond just the music and is something I will remember for the rest of my life.
Anyways I wanted to share a small clip of what we’re doing with the world, or at least the internet. Here’s a clip of the chorus in a song titled “Get Well Soon.” This is a straight to tape copy, no mixing so I apologize if it sounds a little shaky. I look forward to hearing what people think. E-mail me a comment or if you know a better way to get in touch with me, do so.
I went to the Virgin Islands for a week, it was pretty awesome. First time out of the country. It made me want to see more of the world. I can’t even paraphrase how great it was to get away for a week but let’s just say I hope I don’t have to wait another 4 years for it to happen again.
Word is starting to spread about the studio already. I’ve got people lining up to record right now, it’s getting awesome. Lloyd is still busy meeting my crunch dates with new cables and Brian has been hard at work testing the power in the house. We’ve got some issues we’re addressing regarding our 120V AC lines. He’s got great hook-ups at our power company so we’ll be seeing improvements soon. I’ve also done a great deal of research on balanced power and found a great company to help accomplish a complete redesign in the way I provide clean, balanced power to all of my equipment. It’ll be a pricey redesign, but definitely worth it. Although right off vacation, I am back into a very busy schedule but it’s been a thrill to really start hammering away at the studio setup. Can’t wait to see how everything plays out.
Ready to hit the Virgin Islands with Brian for a week. It’s way overdue and the fact that I’m doing something for myself is still overwhelming. I even bought a bathing suit which is crazy because I don’t think I’ve owned one since ‘95.
Got a sweet deal on an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro off eBay. Definitely looking for killer bass tone. I’m not going to lie, I love the Mark Hoppus Signature bass. That thing has tone like no other. Now imagine that with all PACS Cables running into a complete Ampeg rig. Sweet bliss. Took a quick trip up to Lloyd’s house last night to pick up some test cables to play with tonight. He’s working on a fitting solution for my pre-patchbay-adc setup. We’re getting risky and going with what he calls “forbidden cables” — fragile cables designed to maximize signal flow but are more susceptible to RF interference. Once these cables are a go, I’ll be all geared up to do two new albums that are floating around waiting for my signal.
rain 2 the political Obama remix. I cut this up the other night out of bordeom; definitely like where it’s at. I need the live drums to hit with Joel Salisbury rocking the bass line. That’ll be all done up once all the new equipment is plugged in.
